Summarizer: Branded

After being humiliated by Sally and her friend Carla, Dale goes to his weekly meetings with Rolf, his counselor who knows all about Dale’s true identity. Worrisome, Dale tells him about the new feelings he has been experiencing, and it is explained to him that he is just entering adolescence. Dale’s patience with Will gets tested when Will shows up at the crypt after Dale’s session, and then he forces a book onto Dale. One which he doesn't like.

When Dale gets a question right about Wuthering Heights, Hawthorne attacks him after class, which causes a fight. As he answers the question his teacher starts interrogating him about where Dale comes from, but fortunately Dale manages to keep his cool and says that he has been to Haworth, but isn’t from that area, leaving no suspicion about whether he could of escaped Haworth or not. It is a close call though, and Will who is already a little bit suspicious, after finding Dale in the crypt, one would think. Will starts nosing around, for example he sees Dale talking on the phone, and although it might not be his business, he asks who it was. When his question isn’t answered Will pretends that he was just making conversation, but the reader can be certain that wasn’t the only reason why he asked.

To change the topic, Dale brings up the young teens night at Hangovers, which is the following night. Dale wants to go, but Will doubts it will be any fun and decides against going in to the advantage of a documentary about mummies. Dale decides to go alone to get a chance to impress Sally and Carla with his dancing.

Simultaneously Minnie Cooper is lurking around trying to find their new identities. With the help of Dale´s ex-best friend, she comes up with a plan to follow the family home from Gav´s prison. Dale’s mother is preparing to visit the prison, and stay overnight at the same pub as Minnie Cooper.
